MathGrit (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates mathgrit.com. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect personal information from users of our competitive math training platform, including users under the age of 13.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account information: Email address, username, display name, birth year and month, country.
  • Usage data: Problems attempted, answers submitted, time spent, ratings, achievements, and learning progress.
  • Technical data: IP address (hashed for analytics), browser type, device type, and referring pages.
  • Payment data: Processed by Stripe. We do not store credit card numbers.
  • Parent information: Parent email address (when required for users under 13).

3. Children’s Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

MathGrit is designed for students aged 12–18. We comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) for users under 13:

  • Age verification: We collect birth year and month during registration to determine age.
  • Parental consent: Users under 13 must provide a parent or guardian’s email address. The parent receives a verification email and must confirm consent before the child can use the platform.
  • Limited data collection: We collect only data necessary for the educational service. We do not serve behavioral advertising to any users.
  • Parental access: Parents can view their child’s activity through the parent dashboard, request data export, or request account deletion at any time.
  • No public profiles for minors: Users under 13 do not have publicly visible profile pages unless their parent explicitly enables this.

4. How We Use Information

  • Provide and improve the math training platform
  • Calculate skill ratings and track learning progress
  • Recommend problems at appropriate difficulty levels
  • Send progress reports to parents (weekly, with unsubscribe option)
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions
  • Prevent abuse and enforce rate limits

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell personal information. We share data only with:

  • Stripe: Payment processing
  • Amazon Web Services and Resend: Email delivery
  • Google Cloud Platform: Infrastructure hosting

All service providers are contractually obligated to protect your data.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

  • Account data is retained while the account is active.
  • You may request account deletion at any time through your account settings or by emailing us.
  • Deletion requests have a 30-day grace period during which the account can be reactivated.
  • After the grace period, all personal data is permanently deleted, including practice history, ratings, and achievements.
  • Anonymized, aggregated statistics (e.g., problem solve rates) may be retained for service improvement.

7. Data Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (TLS), hashed passwords (bcrypt), and secure cloud infrastructure. Access to personal data is limited to authorized personnel only.

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and data
  • Opt out of marketing communications
  • Parents: review, modify, or delete your child’s information
